Listen to the first single “War Above Los Angeles”

Posted on July 27, 2022

After revealing their new lineup before contributing to Metallica Blacklist last year we suspected things were most definitely on with punk supergroup OFF!. Now they’re back with plans to release their first new album in eight years. They also shared its insistent debut single “War Above Los Angeles” and a slew of North American tour dates in 2022 to support the record, including some Canadian stops.

Due September 30 via Fat Possum, Free LSD follows the band’s 2014 album wasted years. It also functions as the soundtrack to “sci-fi punk rockumentary” Watermelonwhich was introduced as an April Fool’s joke in 2019.

“Since thinking of the album as a soundtrack to a weird sci-fi movie gave us permission to experiment, and the movie explains, in a fantastic way, the making of the album, they both go hand in hand as an overall artistic project,” explained Dimitri Coats (ex-Burning Bridges) in a press release.

With a playful premise and their new programming, OFF! feel revitalised: “After making music for as long as I have, it was time to use a palette that included lime green, turquoise and magenta instead of the typical colors and shades that were involved in all the other daredevils and car chase scenarios,” added Keith Morris (ex-Black Flag, Circle Jerks). “Miles Davis with Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters vs. Milo goes to college.”

Punks will launch a series of dates supporting Free LSD from the end of October. They will play Cafe Campus in Montreal on November 12 and Lee’s Palace in Toronto on November 13, before heading to Rickshaw in Vancouver a month later on December 13. OFF! will be flipping the switch when touring in Los Angeles on December 17.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, July 29 at 10 a.m. local time through the band’s website.
