Harrison Ford celebrated his 80th birthday on July 13. His Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill was among many who wished the actor on social media.
Hamill shared a photo of the two with their arms around each other and wrote:
For Harrison: 🎂
Glad to be your friend, mh 🙏
Of the two stars’ attire, the photo appears to have been taken at the 2017 Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida, where the 40th anniversary of Episode IV: A New Hope was celebrated.
Hamill and Ford reunited with Star Wars creator George Lucas and Lucasfilm president Kathleen on the panel to pay tribute to their late co-star Carrie Fisher.
Hamill and Ford have remained friends since completing the original Star Wars trilogy together and reprized their roles for the sequels together, though they didn’t share the screen.
Ford was present when Hamill received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018 and paid a touching tribute.
Star Wars fans were thrilled when Harrison Ford returned as Han Solo in Episode VII: The Force Awakens, as is his furry sidekick Chewbacca. However, this quickly turned into agony as during the course of the film, Solo perished at the hands of his son Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver.
Solo’s death was not well received by a certain section of the fandom, as well as the original trilogy’s editor and George Lucas’ ex-wife, Marcia Lucas.
In an interview with the late JW Rinzler for the book Howard Kazanjian: The Life of a ProducerMarcia Lucas admitted she was “furious” when Han Solo was killed.
“I was furious when they killed Han Solo. Absolutely, positively, there was no rhyme or reason. I thought: you don’t understand Jedi history. You don’t get Star magic Wars Are you getting rid of Han Solo?
Harrison Ford is set to appear next in the highly anticipated fifth installment of his archaeology-adventure franchise, IndianaJones. After being pushed back several times, the film is now due out in June 2023.
