Madison Cunningham has shared her third studio album Developerhis first feature film since the arrival of his second effort who are you now in 2019. The album, now available through Verve Forecast and Universal Music Canada, features previously released singles “Hospital“, “From Japan”, “Everywhere” and “Life according to Raechel.”
“For me, ‘revealing’ is the album’s connecting theme,” Cunningham explained in a statement. “The hand that slowly erases the mirror in which you see yourself and the world and replaces it with the truest reflection.”
Developer was created in collaboration with Mike Elizondo and his longtime producer Tyler Chester. The album has been described as both intimate and confessional as the singer and songwriter strives to paint a self-portrait that embraces the hard truths most would choose to ignore. Cunningham explores doubt and uncertainty throughout the record with nuance and care.
“I think just through experience, and sometimes it just has to be earned – I feel a little more assured of who I am as an artist and what I have to say and offer,” said said Cunningham. Atwood magazine in a recent interview. “Again, it just comes with experience and time, and learning to really follow what interests you. It’s so easy to surround yourself with so many voices and people telling you how you should sound and what you should be, and now I feel like I’m a lot more independent than I was when creating Who Are You Now. But I wouldn’t change a thing, that experience was so amazing and got me through 2022.”
The Los Angeles singer and songwriter will celebrate her release day by releasing her long Developer tour, beginning September 9 on the New York rooftop at Pier 17. The series of shows will continue through December 9 with Cunningham making stops in Louisville, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, London, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and more.
