Minister Jack Chambers was on hand to officially open the Croithlí distillery, much to the delight of the people of Donegal.
Located in Croithlí, County Donegal, between the rugged Atlantic coast and the majestic mountains of Derryveagh, including the magnificent Errigal, our distillery is a historic building built in 1901.
This beautifully restored stone building is home to Donegal’s; first licensed whiskey distillery in operation for 180 years. In keeping with the local Gaeltacht distilling tradition, we use direct fire pot stills in our double distillation, sourced from the Cognac region and refurbished to produce fine spirit in Croithlí.
Recently opened, the Croithlí Distillery Experience captures the essence of Donegal Gaeltacht whisky, generating enthusiastic anticipation, appreciation and connection with the people, culture and place that lies west of Donegal.
Through a stunning audio-visual presentation, stories about local mythology, hardships and the historic building’s many past lives are told. Donegal’s unique connection to the invention of whiskey is portrayed, while the art and science of whiskey making is taught by knowledgeable tour guides; Satisfy whiskey enthusiasts’ quest for information while creating intrigue for those unfamiliar with whiskey.
Tastings include the new series of Coillín Darach oak species – Sessile, Quercus Alba, Quercus Robur and exclusive small batch releases.
Now open to the public, tours will begin every 30 minutes and last approximately 75 minutes. Tour packages range from single to multiple whiskey and sampling new spirits. Prices for single adults range from €19 to €27 with family and group packages available.
