Is there currently a more interesting collaboration than the award-winning association of AzizTheShake and Van Buren Records? The Nashua-gone-Los Angeles Artist Kicks Off the New Year with a “2-Pack” of Singles Today (Jan. 4), again recruiting members of the rap collective Brockton to give his beats an extra bounce . “Image of God” centers on conviction in Aziz’s brash verses and Luke Bar $, while Aziz joins Jiles and Meech BOLD for a few bars on “Toledo”.
The double plan follows AzizTheShake’s success at the 2021 Boston Music Awards last month, where he landed the titles of “Producer of the Year” and “Video of the Year” for his visual “WORSHIP” with Van Buren Records. Two albums he worked on – BIA’s Certainly and EP from VB RUE DU MUR NOIR – also took equipment home during the ceremony.
But Aziz will not be seen as “fair” a producer who is content to keep his work behind the console; instead, he’s shaking up his image in 2022 to re-emphasize the full blast of his skills. After all, before Certainly and BLACK WALL STREET, there was Two dollar movies, Aziz’s solo rap record from just three years ago.
“[With] ‘Toledo’, I just wanted to remind people that I really do that, says Aziz Vanyaland. “I was first an artist / writer, but with my upcoming production, people often only know me for that. I want to remind people, or introduce people to AzizTheShake, the artist.
“Image of God,” on the other hand, is Aziz’s callback to himself: “The song was born out of just feeling underrated in so many relationships and dynamics. It is also about having faith, in a higher power, in oneself. Yes you keep working when things seem impossible, you will probably be rewarded.
